Despite the cold weather the girls are doing great! I don't think they miss the extra rosters the flock actually seems more stable now with just two rosters, who amazingly just leave each other alone. I think it's because they have enough ladies and loads of space (no comments neccessary guys) . We just gave them new pasture and they are totally happy... we are getting about 2 dozen eggs a day from 48 hens and that's with out using a light in increase production.. just good old mother nature - loads of fresh grass and bugs...

Hi, Clare: Remember last summer when the Girls in Napa were not laying? Well, they're laying now! I've been getting at least five eggs a week for the past month, and I got three eggs today. Two blues and a tan - so SuzyQ is still laying! I think it was a thank you for the half a bale of rice straw I gave them in the pen yesterday. I sure do like to see those little fluffy butts sticking up while the go through the straw and use their legs to rearrange it. I planted a black oak in the front in November; Inks is nourishing it. Thank you so much again!
Araucanas, right? We had a flock while I was growing up. Nothing so wondrous to a child as naturally colored eggs!
Just to be perfectly clear - I'm not actually in NYC anymore. We moved upstate about six years ago. And it's beautiful here. But different. Not Oregon. So I love seeing your pictures and getting a little Oregon fix now and then! Thanks!

upsate NY is where I grew up on a farm Maia.. it's like we swapped lives : )
