eggs are in PLENTY!!

the broilers are chirping away - come July there gonna be YUMMY!!

all the pasture is looking the best it's ever looked - so exciting to see it getting better each year!

I'm still waiting for the fruit trees any minute now they will be exploding...

the bees are flying and collecting pollen as fast as they can...

and mr. big paws is growing up fast and bigger than his mom already...

happy spring!!

Buckin' hay and long summer days!

It's been beautiful and we are thankful as we've been getting up and getting after it around here the last few weeks between getting our place cleaned up and bringing in our first crop of hay!! we've been head down tail up for a few weeks now.

we are just about done getting the barn all cleaned out and thanks to Brian propped up - note new posts and cement on right side!!

you can see my 8 year old farm helper with me up on the bale wagon in this shot! her mom was takin' a well deserved break from helpin' thanks jess for comin' out and being game : )

I'll be happy to not buck any more hay for another year!

There were multiple vehicles used to bring in the hay

and multiple helpers at different times.. thanks Louis

these yahoo's didn't help at all!!

this dosen't look like much but I promise you it's not easy getting the bales up on top of the stack! This is abotu 7 tons of hay that we picked up out of the field stacked into the truck and trailer and then unloaded and then re-stacked into the barn - makes my back sore just typing it : )

I was happy to collect the evening eggs they are much lighter than the bales!

I did enjoy an end of day ride on hummer this evening at abotu 8:30 pm when we finally stopped it was my reward after a long weekend of farm work. - Thanks Hummer : )

Simpatica Dinning Hall + park Kitchen

Our eggs are featured at two fabulous eating establishments in Portland!

I just recently contacted Scott Ketterman at Simpatica I brought him my eggs to try he loved them and is not only willing to pay the very dear price for my oganic and grass fed eggs he's featured them on him menu! "Raviolo filled with Big Table Farm’s Egg Yolk, Fresh Ricotta, Arugula and Parmesan Reggiano" yum!! thank you Scott!

And then there are also my good friends at Park Kitchen who you have seen on this blog frequently! I love Scott and Dave's cooking and the vibe there is just great! They have been buying our eggs for a long time now and in addition save weekly meat scraps for my chickens - now that's a farm circle - I drop off eggs and they give me a big old bag of premium scraps for my girls!! NICE!!

The Portland Restaurant scene is truly farm to you !! go out and eat tonight! there are some truly amazing chefs and restaurants! cheers! - Clare

that time of year

It's still winter but we have been having a spell of very warm weather wet but warm...

The grass seems to think it's early march as do the chickens - there gonna get a rude awakening if or should I say when we get a cold snap... which I shouldn't talk about as we are down to about 1 and a 1/2 cords of wood...

lots of spring growth! which the animals all LOVE~

we are at 4 dozen a day now and more on the way ... when spring really comes in earnest!
if there are any locals that would like eggs there are for sale here at the farm. just drop me an e-mail

Drove horses both days this weekend! Sundays work was in the rain they boys took it well I think we minded it more than they did... and so since the harness was soaking wet (not something you want to do all the time) I figured I may as well scrub and oil it as I've been wanting to get that done for a while... I've started to really get excited about the upcoming plowing competition in February in WA (the 20th to be exact:) and have been slowly getting me my boys and equipment ready. (shoot I even had a dream abotu it last night : )

before scrub and oil

after scrub and oil : ) and a little elbow grease polish to the old brass : )

Also Josephine and I have been bonding a bit more of late she has finally decided me being right up next to her is ok with her and scratching her is a VERY good thing.. cows really don't' tend to like to be touched and handled unless there dairy cows that have been handled since birth - gentling a cow takes a lot of patience - it has taking 2 years of sweet talking Josephine to get her to trust me enough to hang out for scratches!! pretty nice really and boy is she soft!!!

A tree we just lost in the wet pink dusk light.
