Plowed with Duane's teams today at the farm museum - Used the walking plow with three up and the kids were perfect!! and then was handed the lines by Duane for a pass with 6 horses on the two bottom riding plow! What a thrill - a great day of horses and farmers young and old... if you missed today COME to the plow day May 1st !!
all these shots are taken by my brother Joseph (except the one below ; )- My friend buzz ran the horses for him so he could put his hand to the plow - I think he liked it... : )
Holly Horses and plows O my. What a day that must have been. You look so happy and it is so good to see. Those animals sure are big. How cool Joseph was there to witness it all.
Today we celebrated CLARE! We were at the dairy getting ice cream when a couple of riders stopped across the road and the horses whinnied. So, I whistled a whinny back, and they whinnied again, back and forth. Then a horse-drawn wagon pulled up outta the blue! (It is out in the country, but this is still a rare sight.) The riders knew him and said, "He's great, just walk over and meet him" A few minutes later we hopped in the seat next to Leonard, made friends, and at the end of the week we'll be out there shining the hames and grooming two white Percherons as he prepares for heritage day. Sutton sayds to tell you, they're only 11. See what you get started?
oh sounds like a dreamy day!! how fun extra hands are ALWAYS welcome when working drafts it's just so much equipment, schlepping and grooming there's always work to be done so I'm sure he'll be psyched for the help sutton...
It was a super duper blast (and not the grocery store in Fulton). Clare has a real gift with the Shires and she was the happiest I have seen her in a long while. Yeah for old timers, driven' tractors, mules, draft horses, and plows. It was such fun celebrating Oregon Heritage Days.
Porter, you are so sweet! I WANTED to comment on Clare's hair and you did- thank you! I LOVE IT! It's so perfect for who and where you are Clare! xoxbee
